ianreid Brett have evolved. Still having the nostalgic dream pop feel that drew me to their music in 2013, they boldly explored a Country/Western influence on this EP and pull it off. Mick Coogan's vocals still have the melodic sit in the mix and lyrical content of sentimental reflection. The addition of guitarist Scott Dittrich has driven their sound into a great place for Brett to continue exploring their genre's landscapes. It's come together strongly on 'Mustangs'. Favorite track: Tell Me All the Dreams You Been Havin'.

about

In late summer of 2016, on a weekend escape from LA up the PCH, a road trip which wound from sun-bleached Malibu all the way to the misty Redwoods, Brett singer and lead song writer Mick Coogan revisited the canon of classic Americana--ranging from pop gods Fleetwood Mac, to the great Tom Petty, to newer, ethereal acts like Wild Nothing. However, on this ride the one artist that shone above the rest was Sheryl Crow. Crow's razor sharp lyrical sensibilities, coupled with her deft mix of pop and country, firmly cement her status as one of the greatest contemporary songwriters. Her songs have resonated for decades.

It was this shot up the rugged and beautiful California coast that inspired Coogan to add a collection of western-tinged pop songs to the Brett catalogue. Guitarist Scott Dittrich was instrumental in crafting the songs and showcases his intuitive skill at the slide guitar and ability to write early 70's Keith Richards riffs on the spot. 'Mustangs' is Brett's fifth official release and displays Coogan's knack for melding big melodies with earnest, poignant lyrics. The new EP welcomes the band to change gears and cross new frontiers.
